Observers & disputes

Let the sceptics watch properly.

An election nobody can scrutinise is an election somebody will contest. Give rival slates, federations and independent observers their own credentials and their own view.

How scrutiny works

🎫

Observer accreditation

Credential observers individually, so their access is scoped to observation and their activity is recorded like any other official’s.

πŸ“‘

Live feed access

Observers see the live results and turnout as they build, rather than being handed a total at the end.

πŸ“

Observation reports

Observers file their reports in the system against the election, so concerns are on the record at the time they arose.

βš–

A real dispute process

Challenges are filed, assigned, worked and resolved during a defined dispute window before certification β€” with the resolution recorded.

Independent verification by voters

Scrutiny is not only for accredited observers. Every voter receives a receipt, and anyone holding that receipt can independently confirm the ballot was recorded through our public receipt checker β€” without learning how it was cast.

To be precise about the limit: this gives each voter assurance about their own ballot. It does not let a third party independently recompute the whole result, because we do not currently publish a public bulletin board of encrypted ballots. Anyone assessing your election on technical grounds will ask that question, so it is better answered upfront.

Contested election coming up?

Accrediting observers early is usually cheaper than defending a result later.
