Account deletion

Delete your PollGuard account

Delete it yourself in the Android app or on the website, or ask us by email. This page says exactly what is erased, what is kept, and for how long.

Three ways

How to delete

  1. In the Android app

Open PollGuard and go to Profile. Under Your account, tap Delete my account. Type DELETE and tap Delete my account. You are signed out straight away.

  2. On the website

Sign in and open Settings. In Delete account, choose Delete my account, type DELETE and choose Confirm delete.

  3. By email

Can't sign in? Write to manage@pollguard.africa from the email address on your account, with Delete my account in the subject and the name of your organisation. We check the request is yours, then record it for you. From then on it works exactly like deleting it yourself.

What is erased

The files are deleted from our storage, not just hidden.

  • Your name, email address, phone number, ID number, date of birth, gender and nationality.
  • Your address, where you are registered (county, constituency, ward, polling station), your membership number and any location your browser shared.
  • Your identity check: photos and scans of your ID, selfies, the liveness video and stills taken from it, and everything read from them.
  • Your face and fingerprint records used for checks, and your entry in our duplicate-face check.
  • Your password. No one can sign in to the account again.
  • The network address and browser details stored with your ballots, and your email address on our security log.
Not erased

What is kept, and for how long

Some records have to outlive the account for an election to stay correct or to stop abuse. Apart from a candidate’s name and your organisation’s own records, none of them carries your name, email, phone or ID number.

WhatWhyHow long
Ballots you castSo every result stays correct and no one can vote twice in your place. They point to an account number with no name, email, phone or ID attached. As long as your organisation keeps the election’s records.
Your name on a candidate listOnly if you stood as a candidate: results name the candidates, so your name stays on that election’s list and results. As long as your organisation keeps the election’s records.
A coded record of your phoneA scrambled form of the phone’s identifier (never the identifier itself), so the same phone cannot register a different person. If you join again from that phone, an officer of your organisation may need to approve it. More in the privacy policy. Two years after you delete your account, then deleted automatically.
The security logA record of what was done on the account and when, with the account number and the network address of each request. It is how we investigate abuse. No automatic end date yet.
Results of the automated identity checksOur checking service keeps a short code computed from each ID photo (not the photo) to spot the same document used twice, and the scores of each check. Both are linked only to the account number. No automatic end date yet.
Your organisation’s own recordsMessages and support tickets you sent your organisation, gifts and pledges (financial records), and any supporter register entry belong to your organisation. Ask them about these.Your organisation’s own rules.

Only some of your data?
